Using Skype on SameSexSunday

  • Connect on a strong, stable connection.
    • Do not connect using dial-up.
    • Try to connect directly to the router using a LAN cable.
    • If you must connect via wireless, you will get your best connection in the same room as the router with little furniture obstructing the radio signal from the router between it and your computer.
    • Connect over a secure wireless connection, an open connection that does not require a security code could be accessed by strangers during the call; which could reduce the quality and strength of your connection.
    • If you are connecting over wireless, try to keep others who use that connection off the internet if possible.
  • Eliminate the Skype sounds that disrupt the call in the following manner:
    • ON MAC:
      • In Skype, go to the Skype menu > Preferences > Notifications
      • use the pulldown menu to select "Message Received" and uncheck the box next to "play sound."
      • Repeat for "First Message Received," "Mood Message Received" and "Message Sent" in the pull down menu.
    • ON PC:
  • As fun as it is, please keep video off. Trying to run video during the call will take up bandwidth and force the call to quit.
  • Please go into your preferences or options and be sure you turn off "start my video automatically" in the "video" options. Its VERY important to do this, or else we'll just be going back and forth disconnecting and reconnecting with you on the day of!
  • During the call, please keep visible:
    • The text chat window
    • The call window (the one with everyone's pictures and sound levels)
  • Please mute your mic while not speaking, but DON'T FORGET to unmute your mic before you begin talking!
  • Using a headset mic will reduce the keyboard tapping sounds you hear when you use your built-in mic.

Make your sound phenomenal!

Feel free to test call phil (p.j.reese) or Joe (uroborus8) in the days leading up to the show to make sure you understand how to use Skype

Please use the notifications menu in your "preferences" menu to turn off all sounds related to alerts and warnings. The mics pick these sounds up and they unfortunately make it into the recording!
